Visit EDF EnergyEDF are Britain's largest generator of zero carbon electricity. Their aim is to reach net zero carbon emissions through the use of wind, nuclear and solar power.
EDF was created in 2003 - the result of the amalgamation of SEEBoard, London Energy and SWEB - and commenced life predominantly as a retailer of energy. They have however been acquisitive in the entire energy market, and on buying British Energy they are now the UK's largest electricity generator.
They now own more than 8 nuclear power stations, and are involved with delivering the next generation nuclear power stations aimed at producing reliable low carbon electricity. A new nuclear power station is being built at Hinkley Point and another is planned at Sizewell. They also own 35 wind farms.
Currently they employ over 20,000 people in the UK, and produce about a fifth of the UK's electricity.
