If you are flying into Franz Josef Strauss Munich Airport (MUC) and visiting Munich, the capital of Bavaria, it is a good idea to consider hiring a car. It is likely that you will find that car hire will give you more freedom and is the most convenient way to visit the cultural and historical state of Bavaria. With the permission of your hire car company you could even take a trip over the border into Austria.
The German state is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers many historic cities which are home to castles, cathedrals, monuments and shops. Hiring a car expands the area that you can explore easily, whatever takes your fancy, from the famous Schönau am Königsee, perfect for hiking in summer, and skiing in winter to the salt mines of Bad Reichenhall to the 17th Century Berchtesgaden Castle, once summer home to the Bavarian Royal family.
Munich is also a top destination for skiing, as it has easy access to the Alps, and there are over 40 ski resorts within an hour and a half of the Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß Airport.
The following companies have desks in Munich Airport:
In Munich Airport, rental car desks are located all together in Terminal 2 opposite area C. If you have reserved your car to pick up from Munich Airport, you can collect your keys and rental documents from here.
When you go to return your hire car, you need to take your car to the area in Terminal 1, opposite area B (it is signposted). You should leave your car with the service crew, just inside the entrance, and leave keys and documents in the car. The returns area is opposite car parking areas P26 and north of P9.
