Detroit earned the nickname 'Motor City' due to the flourishing car industry there. It is the largest city in Michigan state and also the largest city to border Canada. Detroit is also known worldwide for its music connections particularly for being the home of Motown Records.
Both the spectacular Niagara Falls and the beautiful city of Toronto are within a comfortable driving distance of Detroit Metro airport. This destination also provides easy access to the Great Lakes as well as other parts of Canada and the busy cities of Cleveland and Chicago.
There are direct flights from London Heathrow to Detroit Metro
To reach the Rental Car Campus at Detroit Metro airport you will need to take the courtesy shuttle bus. There are no desks within the terminal building. After you have collected your bags, follow the signs for Ground Transportation. If your chosen rental firm is 'off-airport' then you will need to take a different bus. Please follow the signs for Off-Airport Rental Car Shuttles and make sure you have read any instructions on your car hire paperwork. The cars are kept at the same location.
When you return to the airport, drive your car to the Rental Car Campus which is on Lucas Drive on the Northeast corner of the airport. It is signposted. Once you have handed back the keys and sorted any paperwork, the shuttle bus will take you back to the terminal. Off- airport rental should be returned to where you picked up the car unless otherwise directed by your rental company.
