Gdansk has had a turbulent history. It saw some of the first fighting in the second world war and has changed hands several times. Much of the city was rebuilt in the 1950s and it no longer resembles the more Germanic city that existed pre-1939. It is however a very beautiful city and certainly worth a visit.

Take a stroll along Dlugi Targ, the main street, where you can find shops, cafes and museums. The town hall is also on this street and a climb up its tower will afford you wonderful views across the city. Another walk along the waterfront of the Motlawa river is also a must.

Gdansk airport is around a 22 minute drive from the city which sits on the Baltic coast. Several European cities can be reached direct from Gdansk airport including London Luton with Wizzair.

Where are the car rental service desks at Gdansk airport?

The car rental desks are on the ground floor of the arrivals hall at Gdansk airport. This is only a small airport so many of the car hire companies offer a shuttle service to pick up your car. In these cases, you will be met by a representative from the rental company on your arrival and they will direct you. Some companies ask you to telephone on arrival.
