Morocco has a poor road safety record so take care driving, particularly in bad weather conditions and at night. If you are involved in an accident then you will need to complete a 'Constat Amiable' which has to be signed by both parties. You can pick one up from your hire company or at tobacconists.

Most rentals come with full insurance waivers, though excesses can be quite high, typically between £750 and £1500 for a compact car but this can more than double for larger 4x4's, people carriers or luxury cars. These heavy excesses and usual exclusions of tyres, underside and windows make a strong case for purchasing car hire excess insurance before you collect the car.

Third party insurance is normally provided at a reasonable level but can be more restrictive than we're used to in Europe. For example, Budget include approximately £3.75 million in third party insurance for property damage but only £750 for personal injury. Supplementary Liability Insurance (SLI) can be purchased with car hire insurance to top this up to US $1 million but check the SLI is valid worldwide as many are restricted to the Americas.
