We all want to keep the cost of our holiday down and saving a few pounds here and there can really help. That's why it may be a good idea to look at taking out an independent car hire excess policy before the premiums are affected by the rate rise. There can be advantages to booking your car hire early too.
On the 1st June the IPT (Insurance Premium Tax) rises from 10% to 12%. It will have effectively doubled since before November 2015. This tax affects several areas of insurance including motor vehicles, buildings and contents, pet and health. Most of us renew these insurances annually so it may be difficult to take these out before the increase - but car hire excess insurance is different.
With car hire excess insurance, even if you haven't booked your flights yet, you can still look at purchasing a policy in advance. These policies just need to be in place before you pick up your hire car but you do not need either the car details or your flight number to proceed. It only takes a couple of minutes to fill in your details on the MoneyMaxim car hire excess comparison service and you will be provided with a table of quotes for you to consider. Daily prices start from about £1.80, annual policies from about £35.
We see car hire prices rise during the summer so booking early can see you benefitting from lower prices. The other consideration is that some models - particularly larger vehicles such as 7 or 9 seaters - can be in short supply so, by reserving yours early, you will not be disappointed. Using the MoneyMaxim Car Hire service will enable you to enter your requirements and browse the possible choices at your leisure.
Travel insurance is unaffected by the IPT increase as it is subject to the higher rate of IPT. However, if you are making holiday plans for the coming year, we can also help find a travel insurance suitable for your needs - whether you are going backpacking, cruising or looking to try out a more adventurous activity!
