Higher fuel prices have forced two thirds of Brits to change their driving habits as driving becomes too expensive.
If you are looking to reduce your car expenses compare car insurance to see if you can get a better deal in the current climate.
The research by moneysupermarket also revealed one in ten say they no longer drive because of the high cost of fuel, however 31 percent are sticking to their usual driving habits as they can just afford it while five percent have not changed their driving habits at all.
"We're all looking at ways to lower our everyday outgoings and getting behind the wheel is a real drain on finances," said Steve Sweeney, moneysupermarket.com's car insurance head.
"With recent fuel price hikes and increasing costs of car insurance, drivers are turning savvy and making changes to their usual habits to drive down costs."
Recent car insurance deals includes an offer from Santander Insurance UK which is offering a free TomTom satellite navigation system or £5 cashback for motorists who take out a new car insurance policy with them before the end of the year.
Included under this cover is a three years guarantee on all approved repair work and a non-stop UK based helpline.
Compare Car Insurance
If you are struggling with the high cost of running a car compare insurance policies to investigate whether a new deal could save you money.
Insurers tend to offer discounts for various conditions such as age or sex which have been widely debated recently.
However, there are things you can do to reduce it in the long term, for example if you have recently passed your test try taking the pass plus which makes insurers look more favourably on you as less likely to be involved in an accident.
Otherwise, if you have alarms or additional safety features added to the car this may also knock the price down.
