Compare Gas and Electricity as Brits Try to Reduce Bills

If your energy consumption is fuelling arguments in your home, compare gas and electricity providers to see if you could reduce your rate.

The rise in energy costs has sparked a trend for families to blame others in the household for wasting gas and electricity, new research shows.

If your energy consumption is fuelling arguments in your home, compare gas and electricity providers to see if you could reduce your rate.

According to a survey carried out by uSwitch a few years ago a third of people, 32 percent, claim that the mother in the home uses the most energy while 30 percent claim dad does.

The study revealed three in ten people in a household claim they are aware of the problem of wasting energy and the rest of the family is not, uSwitch showed.

"Ensuring that energy doesn't go to waste is a very easy saving,” said Anna Robinson, uSwitch's director of consumer policy.

"Energy efficiency can start with simple steps, such as turning things off when they are not in use or using energy monitors or a standby saver.”

A quarter claim that children are the biggest culprits in the family with the biggest energy wasting activities being leaving lights on, leaving TVs, computers and gadget on when not in use, and having everything on standby.

When it comes to devices which aim to save energy 58 percent of households admit they do not use them despite their efficiency and the money they could save.
