Looking for both travel insurance and car hire excess insurance?

The American Express Prestige Travel Insurance has them both covered.

If you are travelling abroad, it is important to consider insurance. There is of course travel insurance for cancellations, delays, medical emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances that may impact your holiday. If you are hiring a car though there are a number of extra considerations well worth thinking about up front.

For instance you may also want to make sure you avoid a large excess payment to your car hire company if the car you are hiring suffers damage, whilst in your control. And this can catch out even the most cautious driver as issues such as chipped windscreens and vandalism can land you with a big bill.

American Express have combined both of these products with their Prestige Travel Insurance. With this unique (at least to our knowledge) policy car hire insurance and damage waiver are included as standard. Whats more, using our link qualifies you for a 20% online discount too!

It's an annual travel insurance policy, so if you travel more than once a year, you wouldn't have the hassle of repeated insurance applications. It also provides cover for UK holidays as long as you have pre-booked at least one night's accommodation.

Prestige Travel insurance is the 'most comprehensive' of Amex's travel insurance policies. There are different levels of cover for worldwide trips of up to 120 days in length. There is up to £15 million worth of cover for medical emergency and repatriation and up to £12,500 if your holiday is cancelled or cut short. Family members can travel independently on family or couples policies meaning that if you and your partner had plans to travel separately you would not need to take out two separate policies.

Is your teenager planning a trip during a gap year? Children are covered under a family policy up to the age of 21 provided they are living with you or are in full-time education. Perhaps you have family abroad who you visit regularly.

Do you need to hire a car each time you go? With the Prestige Annual Travel Insurance you will have your travel insurance and car hire excess insurance all sorted!

Of course, you may choose to buy both your policies separately. The excess insurance benefit under the Prestige Travel Insurance only covers cars up to the retail value of £25,000 so if you are going to be driving a car worth more than that, you would need to look at other car hire excess policies.

The Prestige policy is also an annual policy. It you are a less frequent traveller, getting a single trip travel insurance policy together with a standalone car hire excess insurance is likely to be a better option.
