Car Hire Excess Insurance – What are your options if you are an older or a younger driver?

Is age a factor when it comes to choosing your car hire excess insurance?

A car preferred by older drivers when they buy car hire excess insurance

The great news is that, through MoneyMaxim Car Hire Excess Insurance comparison service there are now policies that can cover drivers which will cover your age group. Car hire excess insurance gives you the confidence that, should you be charged the excess on your car hire you can avoid a big bill. These policies insure the excess you are responsible for on your hire car, so that after an incident, you can claim the cost back from the insurer. The policies available through MoneyMaxim cover your excess but so much more too.

Policies via our service start at around £2 per day but pricing with some of the insurers does vary depending on your age. This is one of the reasons why our comparison service works so well. By filling out just a few details you can see which policies are available to you, at what price and most importantly what they cover. This enables you to make a much more informed choice.

Younger than 21? There is a policy now available through MoneyMaxim for drivers over 18 (but with a years driving experience) that provides reimbursement for that all important excess. Additional drivers can also be covered if they are over 18.

Car hire policies used to be unavailable if you aged 85 or over, but that has now changed!

Run a quote now through the panel and you can pop in your age right up to 100 - and be able to find a policy to cover you.

Do be aware though that some car hire firms have age restrictions too, and potential extra fees or requirements for both younger and older drivers.

There are, however, possible alternatives open to you beyond car hire excess insurance. You can, of course, choose to take out additional insurance with the car hire company. Many offer packages which can reduce or remove the excess. Through our sister site Clarify Car Hire it is easy to compare the packages offered by a car rental company at your chosen destination. We can also offer discounted rates on some excess insurance products offered by car hire companies through Clarify Car Hire.

If you are a senior driver or a younger driver, you may be required to take out the car hire firm’s own insurance as a condition of the hire. In this case you are likely to find you do not have an excess. You may still be liable for wheels, tyres and glass though so do always check what is included and what isn’t when you book your rental vehicle.

If you are under 25 but over 21, you can easily purchase a rental car excess insurance policy through MoneyMaxim but most car hire companies will charge you – and any additional drivers under the age of 25 - a young driver fee. Senior driver fees – often for those over 75 years of age - may also be charged where applicable. With Clarify Car Hire all the charges related to your car rental – including young driver or senior driver fees - are shown clearly in a price breakdown.
