UK drivers will not normally need an international driving permit a standard UK licence is fine,

Use of dipped headlights in daytime is compulsory throughout the year.

Slovakia has a zero alcohol limit for drink driving so don't take any risks.

Although Slovakia does not have a blanket ruling for winter tyres to be fitted over the winter months, winter tyres are compulsory when compacted snow is on the road. Car hire firms may charge extra for winter tyres.

Car Hire Insurance

Car hire normally includes full collision damage waiver, theft waiver and third party insurance. Collision and theft waivers typically have excesses in the region of €800 to €1200 and of course, won't cover the most likely parts to be damaged: windscreens, tyres, undercarriage and roof. Toll Roads

Certain highways and most motorways require a toll to be paid. These are paid by purchasing vignettes (stickers) available from petrol stations or post offices. Vignettes can be bought for full calendar years, monthly or weekly. Whilst it is much better value to pay for it annually, many car hire firms leave it to the customer to pay for their own usage (approx €10 for a week).
