You will need an international driving permit to hire a car in the Seychelles. You should also remember to bring your current licence with you.
Drivers drive on the left in the Seychelles.
The main perils of driving in the Seychelles according to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office are the sometimes steep and narrow mountain roads. Drink driving gets a mention as a problem area too.
Most car rental on the Seychelles comes with unlimited mileage - no great risk of stellar mileages being built up as the main island of Mahe covers just 60 square miles. Of more concern to prospective renters is that some car hire companies run full to empty fuel policies where you pay for a tank of fuel up front and aren't refunded for anything left in the tank. On an island where you'll struggle to cover a significant distance in a short time this is plainly just a disguise for a higher price so allow for this when comparing prices.
Most rental comes with collision damage and theft waivers and full third party coverage but excesses on damage to or loss of the rental car are relatively high at typically between £800-£1,500 level for a modest compact car. See the MoneyMaxim car hire insurance comparison service rather than rely on expensive local add-on insurances.
