General Driving Information

Car Hire in St. Lucia may not be the cheapest in the world and you may have difficulties finding a car with a manual gearbox. However, a good selection of cars is available across many locations on the island.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office warn that roads can be in poor condition, with very steep hills and unmarked hairpin bends. Four wheel drive vehicles are therefore very popular.

Driving Licence Requirements

You will need to present your UK driving licence or IDP at the desk to obtain a local visitors licence / driving permit at a cost of around US $21.

Car Hire Insurance

Most car hire does include collision damage waiver and theft waiver policies but not all so don't assume it is included and do check. Not having CDW cover included with the rental needn't put you off hiring that particular car, indeed many worldwide car hire insurance policies include CDW cover as standard on rentals outside Europe.
