Most cars offered for hire on Puerto Rico are automatics. Given strong tourism, business and political links with the rest of America this is not surprising.

Car Hire

Although many car rental deals include collision damage waiver, not all do. In particular Budget often make this an option. Combined with the MoneyMaxim car hire excess insurance comparison service this can be an opportunity to save money.

At the time of writing, CDW policies start from under £32 for a week or under £85 for annual policies and of course, will also cover your excess and the vulnerable parts of the car not covered anyway.

It may also be worth verifying how much third party liability insurance is provided with your car hire. The minimum legal amount is pitifully inadequate. If you feel it is insufficient, Supplementary Liability Insurance (SLI) policies can be purchased to increase whatever is supplied locally to US $1 million.
