There is no airport in Monaco, which, given Monaco is just over 2 km² is probably a good thing though it does have a heliport if you're feeling flush. If you are travelling to Monaco by air you'll most likely be arriving at NIce Airport so most people find collecting a hire car from there more convenient.

Car hire in Monaco follows the French trends so expect quite heavy excesses on the collision damage waivers - €1500 on a modest car is not at all unusual. Purchase excess insurance at the desk to cover the excess or other items not included in the waivers - tyres, wheels, windows etc and you can easily pay over €20 per day so purchase car hire excess insurance from under £2 per day through our comparison service instead.

Some hire firms do impose mileage restrictions, though curiously most of these restrictions only apply to French residents.
