Although the Foreign and Commonwealth travel advice says you can drive on a UK driving licence in Malaysia for up to 3 months, the AA recommend an international driving permit.

Car hire through our site normally comes with collision damage waivers included though, of course, these don't cover you for tyres, windows or the underside of the car. Excesses can vary from the relatively modest MYR2,000 (about £400) through to the more eye-watering MYR15,000 to MYR20,000 (£4000) - the larger American chains like Avis tend to have the higher excesses.
