Car Hire in Kenya

Great deals on car hire and car hire insurance in Kenya

You will need an international driving permit to drive in Kenya but can use a UK licence for up to 3 months.

Do check the FCO advice before travelling to or within Kenya for the latest information and areas to avoid like anywhere within 60km of the border with Somali. They also recommend avoiding low income areas due to high crime rates. Be aware that many insurances have travelling against the advice of a government agency as an exclusion clause.

Most car hire through MoneyMaxim will include Collision Damage and Theft Waivers but excesses can be very high.Third party liability insurance is usually included but the level of cover can be limited. Adding Supplementary Liability Insurance (SLI) to your car hire excess insurance adds around £50 to an annual policy but can top up your cover to $1 million. Note that some SLI policies are restricted to the USA and Canada only so look out for worldwide SLI cover.

Limited mileage allowances are common and can vary between 100 km/day to 250 km/day but it is possible to find unlimited mileage deals.

It is also possible to find minibus hire with a driver included in Nairobi. This may be preferable to car hire especially if you are unfamiliar with the country. If you experience problems finding suitable car hire, please call our friendly team who are on hand to help.
