You will need an international driving permit to drive in Kazakhstan and you must carry your passport with you at all times.

The Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office offer useful travel advice and warnings.

Most cars for hire in Kazakhstan have automatic transmissions, though manuals can sometimes be found.

Most cars come complete with Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Waiver and Third Party insurance, though information on excesses and cover limits is harder to find. We'd suggest contacting the car hire company directly.

Car hire excess insurance can be purchased to cover you for excess charges including for items like tyres, windows and underside of the vehicle. Supplementary Liability Insurance can top up any third party cover already provided to US $1 million if required.
