Cars rented in Egypt are normally supplied with Collision Damage Waiver and third party insurance, but always check the small print in your rental agreement to ensure this is the case. If third party liability insurance is set at too low a level for you to be comfortable (many car rental companies only offer US$15,000 or so of cover) consider a Supplementary Liability Insurance policy, but ensure you get a policy that operates worldwide and not just in the Americas. Renting cars in Egypt is broadly similar to the process in Europe, but do be aware that driving can be a more challenging proposition. We would suggest that you think long and hard if you are considering a lot of driving in a major city.

The driving quality in Egypt is generally more haphazard and you have the additional challenge of animals which wander into the road. Compared to local taxis, however, you might at least to be able to break your journey when you want your heart to recover. Driving outside the cities tends to be far more 'normal'.
Do make sure you have a plentiful supply of water in your car at all times and a good map so you can avoid getting lost.
Do not exceed the speed limit as there are plenty of speed traps and penalties are high.
