Car hire can be the ideal way to get around the Dominican Republic, the second largest Caribbean country, and one well worth exploring.

Having been under Spanish rule for around 300 years, there are many historic sites worth visiting in the Dominican Republic. Don't miss the colonial area of Santa Domingo which is a World Heritage site. National Parks, such as the Jaragua National Park and Parque Nacional del Este, are also very popular. Malecon and Plaza De la Cultura offer the opportunity to see a bit of cafe culture, whilst many of the old Sugar Mills are worth a visit.

Be aware that on the island there are a wide range of different car hire packages on offer. Some include Collision Damage Waiver policies and some don't. It's always worth calculating the costs of a CDW exclusive package together with a stand alone CDW policy from MoneyMaxim, which will cover the CDW, excesses, and the tyres, wheels, underbody and roof of your vehicle.
