Need Car Hire In Antigua? You are in the right place. We have a great choice of rental vehicles at locations across the island. Whilst for many it's easiest to pick up a car at the airport as you arrive, others may wish just to hire a car for a day or two during their holiday so they can see all the island has to offer.
Whichever option you choose, it's a great idea - with 365 beaches, historic locations such as Fort James or English Harbour and events such as the customary Sunday afternoon barbecue at Shirley Heights (pictured above) you will not be short of places to visit on the island.
However, car hire in Antigua can be slightly confusing and you do need to ensure you understand exactly what your proposed rental includes.
One extra you will have to budget for is a temporary Antiguan Driving Permit for each driver - it's valid for three months and costs US$20. Your car rental company will take care of the formalities - just make sure you bring along your full driving licence from home.
Collision Damage Waiver insurance is frequently excluded from rental prices. This can either be bought at the car hire desk (normally US$10 - US$15 per day) or through an independent policy. The latter are available using the MoneyMaxim car hire insurance service and will typically cost about a third of the cost of policies from the desk.
Another advantage of the independent policies is that they always include cover for the wheels, tyres, glass and underbody of the vehicle - all excluded areas on the car rental firm's policies. As roads in Antigua are of variable quality, this can be a real money saver.
Also available through MoneyMaxim are policies which will top up your third party liability insurance to US$1m. These policies, known as supplementary liability insurance, provide the reassurance that you can cover the costs if you are involved in a serious accident.
Driving your hired car on the island is by far the best way to really see the sights.
Whether you are looking to swim with stingrays, see the Devils Highway, visit what many feel is the best beach on the island at Half Moon Bay or go Duty Free shopping in St Johns your car will be invaluable.
