Is where you are travelling defined as Europe or the rest of the world by your car hire insurer? Surprisingly a European policy can cover you in Israel, Eygpt, Morocco, Tunisa and more - as long as you pick the right company!
And in case you are wondering where the boundary 'West of the Urals' is - it's about 850 miles the other side of Moscow - so plenty of scope for most adventurers.
